Mr. Richard Taaffe has been the Executive Director of West Hawaii Community Health Center since 2005. He has helped grow the health center from a single site with three exam rooms and only six staff to what is now five sites, employing over 140 staff, and serving more than 13,000 patients annually. Mr. Taaffe currently serves on several non-profit boards of directors including Kona Community Hospital, Hawaii Primary Care Association (HPCA), AlohaCare Health Plan, and Health Choice Network (Florida). Prior to moving to Hawaii, Mr. Taaffe lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he worked at La Familia Medical Center (CEO), El Centro Community Health Center, Office of the Governor, State of New Mexico. Mr. Taaffe has a Master’s Degree from the University of New Mexico, a Bachelor of Arts from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Manchester in England.
Christopher Russell, MS, PA-C: Physician Assistant & Medical Director Medical Director Russell, PA-C was born in Santa Clara, California and received his dual-undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Willamette University in Oregon. He attended Pacific University in Oregon, where he received his MS in Physician Assistant Studies. He served as a Physician Assistant mainly in community health in Oregon before moving to Hawaii in 2012 where he began working at West Hawaii Community Health Center. In his spare time, Russell, PA-C enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the Big Island, including hiking, biking, and snorkeling.
